WINONA POLICE DEPARTMENT

PATROL DIVISION

The Department’s Patrol Division is the largest unit in the Police Department. Currently the Division is staffed with 30 police officers covering three shifts. Officers are responsible for the most visible police service provided in the community as officers respond to emergencies such as crimes in progress, traffic accidents and medical emergencies.

Members of the Patrol Division are responsible for conducting preliminary investigations, enforcing traffic laws and providing day-to-day service to citizens within the City of Winona.

Other functions that are included within the Division are Community Policing, Animal Control and the School Liaison Program. In 1997 the Winona Police Department adopted the Community Policing Philosophy enabling us to interact with the community in a more proactive manner to solve problems within the community. Crime within the City has decreased approximately 30% over the past three years. Much of this credit is due to dedicated police officers and citizens working together to reduce crime in the neighborhoods.

Additionally, the department allows participation in a citizen ride-along program to acquaint citizens with our profession. ride-a-long
